If Bilic is so very naive, it is odd that Tex is not our manager whilst Slaven is our most successful in many years

Is Tex even a football manager at any level?

Think I'll keep faith, cheers

Re: West Ham v Swansea - Official Match Thread
It's not so much that he got it wrong at the start it was him doing nothing until the 59th minute to do anything and even then he failed to address what needed doing. It's poor of Bilic to just bring on attacking subs as the answer to everything. That's Kevin Keegan style management at its worst.

I said this several times this season...

Bilic may have transformed the club but I don't think we have to give him the keys to the OS as yet - at times he seems fucking tactically naive and stubborn. Starting Carroll, and Antonio at right back. Also Moses. Well it's all been posted up by many within this thread.

The essence of stupidity is keep doing something again and again that has been proven not to work. The owners are taking note of this - we don't get Euro football = big setback for Slaven - a lot of dosh down the tube and all because he simply got it wrong yesterday when we had better options on the bench.

What Tex said.

Not saying Slav was wrong on his assessment, but you sort that stuff in private if you want any support from your stagf another day...

Bilic said...

" "I'm not that disappointed with our play with the ball, but without the ball we had too many passengers, relying on someone else to get the ball and play it to me in a good position. "

CHL, how has Slaven been taking any credit from previous wins?
In what way did he blame his staff after yesterday?

COOL HAND LUKE 7:00 Sun May 8
Re: West Ham v Swansea - Official Match Thread
Bilic is in the chair, just like with Sam i.e.if you take a pat on the head when it goes well, then YOU have to take full personal responsibility when it doesn't. Blaming your 'staff' publicly is ALWAYS a mistake, whether it's obvious or not.

Starting eleven and subs have been all over the show of late. Perhaps Slav has gotten too close to some of the players now and is finding it harder to make the necessary dispassionate decisions?

Re: West Ham v Swansea - Official Match Thread
It's a pity we lost, especially with Soton and pool winning.
It's still in our hands though. Two matchballs!

4 players disappointed me yesterday, even though the whole team was off. It boils down to defensive stupidity and no threat going forward.

Sakho and Emenike should start before Carroll. A lone Carroll is like starting without a striker.

Moses must be sent the fuck back to Chelsea.

Byram or even Tomkins must start at RB. Antonio can go up the wing, and he tracks back if needed.

Looking forward to Tuesday

A win yesterday would have all but secured Europe.
Fucking idiots!

Could see this as far back as the Palace home game. Too gung ho and one too many attackers with only 2 midfielders esp with Antonio at RB. Way too open through the middle and down our right.

Billic needs to get Tomkins or Byram in at RB, push Antonio up and possibly squeeze Obiang in there as well..

Drop Carrol for Sakho too.

Re: West Ham v Swansea - Official Match Thread
As mentioned by others already, European football means we are more likely to keep our best players, attract a better class of player and raise our profile in Europe. A massive opportunity which we must not throw away. Southampton and Liverpool are chasing hard so there is no room for error now.

Agreed ny

Despite having what we would call a great season, compared to recent years, the level has to be maintained. A few defeats and you're mid table. We have raised the bar and we should maintain it now. Yesterday was another good wake up call.

We just have to move on from yesterday. I hope we can qualify for Europa, I think we are just about ready for it. With the summer to strengthen the squad, think it's clear who we need to move on and where we need to improve. I just hope we can keep our best players at the club and make an even better go of it next season.

Outside chance of getting a ticket for Tuesday. Yesterday was a bad way to finish at Upton Park for me personally. Wasted so much time parking. The result and performance, enough already said...

As a kid, glad I experienced highs/lows during the 70s, 80s...you really didn't notice any negatives. As an older git, I think it's time to accept times have changed and the move will be the right thing to do. Count myself v fortunate to have attended when the old ground was a place away fans and teams did not fancy.

Bilic has transformed the club, half a dozen defeats pale into insignificance imo. 2 more wins would be great.

Hopefully on the showing yesterday against Barrow, and Leko, and Bolasie recently people might twig why Cresswell isn't good enough for England.

The tactics didn't cause Moses to have a had game, it's because he has not an ounce of desire in his bones.

Alex V 2:53 Sun May 8
Re: West Ham v Swansea - Official Match Thread
On Moses, the weirdest thing about his performance was that he seemed to be playing a more central role. He's played in central roles from the subs bench as well recently. I guess the theory was to get Antonio to go outside him. It's a tactic that left Moses looking anonymous and brought us nothing sadly.

Re: West Ham v Swansea - Official Match Thread
Far too gung ho, players breaking forward without any regard for their 2 centrebacks if they lost the ball and they did quite a lot yesterday. No cover, no tracking back, no closing down, far too many players in the team just want to attack and don't want to tackle players or mark them.

Re: West Ham v Swansea - Official Match Thread
Putting it in perspective we are still equal third in the lowest number of defeats in the season with 7 and fourth highest scorers with 61 so far outscoring Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea. 6th in the table with 59 points. - Stats like that I think we would all have been more than happy with at the start of the season.

On the downside we have drawn far too many games and are the joint 11th highest conceders along with Palace and West Brom with 47 let in (exactly the same amount of goals conceded after 38 games last season). We have conceded more than the other teams in the top 7 and 5 more than Watford.

So that's where the Club need to strengthen next season, but all in all I don't think we can grumble too much.
